February planting
Early in the month, begin to sow the seeds of leafy green veggies into trays that you can bring indoors in the event of a freeze.
By the third week of the month, you can begin to sow seeds directly in the garden, but DO NOT TRANSPLANT SEEDLINGS YET. Georgia almost always has its last hard freeze just before Easter and this will kill most plants that have developed leaves.
Here are some plants that grow well this season:
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Spinach
- Lettuce
- Collards
- Peas
- Beets
- Carrots
- Onions
TIP: Don’t skimp on potting soil. Dump old soil in the garden and use fresh, nutrient-rich dirt each time you plant seeds.
